Please see below for some summer safety tips as we end the school year. Safety remains a top priority, and we are taking this opportunity to share important community safety messages.
Independence Day - Fireworks
As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, please follow the firework safety guidelines provided by the City of Costa Mesa and City of Newport Beach. "Safe and Sane" fireworks are permitted in Costa Mesa, while all fireworks are illegal in Newport Beach. For more information, visit the respective city websites. Additionally, please remember that it is a violation of the California Education Code to bring fireworks of any kind onto school premises.
Water Safety
With families enjoying water activities this summer, please refer to the City of Newport Beach Ocean Safety and City of Costa Mesa Water Safety websites for safety recommendations. All types of water can be dangerous in the wrong situation, so please stay vigilant.
Sun Safety
Remember to apply sunscreen, reapplying often, especially after swimming or sweating. Wear hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved clothing to protect against the sun. Encourage children to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, especially when active outdoors.
Travel Safety
Wear seatbelts and ensure that younger children use appropriate car seats or booster seats. Share travel plans with trusted friends or family members and check in regularly.
Bicycle Safety
In partnership with the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments, we emphasize the importance of bicycle safety. We urge you to follow safety precautions regarding bicycle, e-bike, and road safety.
We hope these tips help families create a safer environment for their children during the summer months and throughout the year. We wish you a wonderful, safe summer and look forward to welcoming you back to the new school year in August.
