Daily Announcements - Friday, November 9th

For those students taking the SAT-ACT Combo Practice Test tomorrow morning, November 10th , please check in with Mrs. Mary Russell in the Main Quad at 7:30 am sharp! DON’T BE LATE!! The test will start promptly at 8:00 am. Bring a calculator, #2 pencils and - ironically enough - your cell phone. Test will end at 12:00 noon.

 

Today is the first meeting of CdM's Feminism Club in room 209 at lunch. All are welcome!

 

The CdM Bowling Club is having a meeting today at lunch in Ms. Ramirez's room, room 233. All are welcome and no experience is necessary. 

 

There will be an educational tour at the Wetlands Conservancy Center in Huntington Beach. Students may get extra credit in AP Environmental Science and AP Biology. The tour is from 10:00am to 1:00 pm. For the date and more information please email letsmakepawgress@gmail.com.

Come see Mrs. Cox from the Athletics Office dazzle with her skills, or Mrs. Owney relive her HS Cheerleading days, or Ms. Ramirez after her year hiatus. Come on the 15th to support these amazing teachers.

The CDM Surf Team defeated Long Beach Poly 88-49 overall in 2'-3' hollow surf in Newport. Top performers were:

The Multi-Cultural Club is having a meeting today at lunch in Mrs. Sahi's room, room 213. Mexican culture will be discussed, with tacos being served. Hope you can make it! 

 

Don't forget to join Best Buddies for their first meeting of the year, today at lunch in the small gym. If you haven't signed up there is still a chance to join the club. There will be sports supplies and music! Come hang out with some buddies and make a new friend!

 

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club will be meeting today at lunch on the pool deck. Bekah Bryant, a soccer player and local FCA leader, will be speaking so make sure to come out, bring some friends, and enjoy some pizza. Attention all students interested in playing baseball this year. The baseball program will have tryouts for all 9th graders and for any 10th-12th grader who is currently not in the baseball class. The tryouts are November 6th and today, November 8th at 3:30 on the varsity baseball field. If you have any questions, please contact Coach McCaffrey. 

 

Tonight, Thursday, November 8th at 6:00 pm in the small gym is CdM Vocal Music's second annual Dessert Show and Silent Auction! Come by the small gym for a selection of treats and great auction items as the musicians of CdM Vocal Music serenade you with an evening of great music! Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students, and include unlimited access to our dessert bar and Silent Auction. Tonight - One on Campus presents: Carter Barnhart, NYU graduate. Carter talks about struggles in high school with academic pressure, substances, depression - as a girl of some privilege -  and the gratitude she has that her parents intervened to get her the help she needed so she could fulfill her dream of graduating from NYU. 7th & 8th Grade Students & Parents -This year’s CDM Middle School Veterans Brunch and Holiday Variety Show will be taking place on December 10 and we need our CDMMS 7 & 8th graders to GET INVOLVED! Every year CDM puts on a brunch and variety show for our veterans at the Long Beach VA Hospital.  The parents put on the brunch and the students entertain our veterans with a holiday variety show. Please encourage your 7 & 8 grade students and their friends to participate in the this year’s Holiday Variety Show.  Auditions for this years show will be taking place Thursday 11/8 immediately after school in the Lecture Hall.  ALL ACTS ARE ACCEPTED!!!  Music, songs, skits, jokes, magic, dance anything goes as long as the act is 2 minutes or less. The CDM Veterans Brunch is the ONLY outreach program at CDM middle school that is exclusively for our middles school students and families.  Please be on the lookout in the weeks ahead for more information regarding the event and ways to get involved. Attention all students interested in playing baseball this year. The baseball program will have tryouts for all 9th graders and for any 10th-12th grader who is currently not in the baseball class. The tryouts will be today, November 6th and 8th at 3:30 on the varsity baseball field. If you have any questions, please contact Coach McCaffrey. 

 

All grades 7-12 and parents are invited to attend the Evening Fall College Fair tonight, November 6th at 6:30 pm. The event will be held in the CDMHS Learning Resource Center and 200 Building. There will be over 50 schools in attendance. It is very important for students to talk to the college representatives and fill out an “interest card” especially if they plan on applying to their school!!

 

Join us at our next PTA meeting, Wednesday, November 7th, in the Lecture Hall at 9:00am.  We will start with some coffee and socializing outside the lecture Hall at 8:45 so arrive early to visit before our meeting starts at 9:00. The Lecture Hall is in the 300 building and you can enter it directly from the quad. This is a great opportunity to hear from our two principals, our school resource officer and catch up on what’s happening on our campus. Coach GW Mix will be providing a special Challenge Success update as well. OLQA Church has allowed CdM parents to park in their church parking lot to attend our meetings. Don’t forget to bring your ID to check in at the office as well.
